Field Experience At Northeastern

No school does a better job of placing its students in real-life work environments than Northeastern. Our network is your network.

Co-operative education:

Home to the oldest and best co-op program in the country, Northeastern provides an unparalleled professional experience for graduate students. They can work in paid, full-time positions at news organizations for up to six months. Our co-op adviser maintains an extensive network of positions in the Boston area, and in Washington D.C. and New York City. She also can help arrange a co-op in any area of the country.

Internships:

For students who do not want to work in the field for a full six months, an internship provides an alternative. Sometimes paid, sometimes not, an internship affords students a similar experience to co-op, but for a shorter time period. Internships can last for as little as three months, and for as few as 10 hours a week. Many of our full-time graduate students complete two semesters of coursework, and line up an internship for the following summer.

New England Press Association Bulletin:

Our students help produce the NEPA Bulletin, a trade publication that goes to more than 500 newspapers in New England. A small newsroom dedicated to the Bulletin is housed in our building. Students primarily report and write stories for the Bulletin. They also copy edit, do layout, take photos and develop advertising campaigns. Students get hands-on experience as well as tap into a network of hundreds of editors at newspapers throughout New England.
